Indonesian Gaming Studio Hits Android, iOS, and Mig33 With 2 New ...

The Indonesian startup and game developer, NightSpade, is having a busy week, having just released two new games to different markets. The ?edutainment? title Komodo Island: Newborn Wonders (pictured above) goes international on iOS and Android, while the social game Gyropet Ranger (pictured bottom) will appear only in selected countries on mig33?s gaming platform.

The East Ventures-backed studio ? which has a team of 16 people making all its games in-house ? is now present on nearly every major platform and app store, having last week put a new game onto the Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) Android app store (Mad Warrior, which is on iOS too). That?s in addition to its most popular global title, Stack the Stuff ? which we reviewed last summer ? which is on Nokia?s (HEL:NOK1V; NYSE:NOK) MeeGo OS, as well as the more established iOS and Android.

Komodo Island: Newborn Wonders (iTunes, or Android Market link) is a cutesy and simple card-matching game with an educational element, and can teach kids ? or, indeed, adults ? about Komodo Island and its dragon-like lizard creatures. It was commissioned by Indonesia?s Ministry of Tourism in an example of a pretty neat social media marketing campaign.

Gyropet Ranger, meanwhile, hits mig33?s social gaming network and only runs on feature phones. It gives players a virtual pet for them to ?train? and build up its skills.

Nightspade?s Garibaldy W. Mukti, the studio?s chief marketing officer, explained to Penn-Olson that his company is ?trying to get the games into as many app stores as possible? right now, and is focusing on localization ? in terms of culture, as well as language ? to achieve this. He explains:

Each games is made suitable for the respective user-base. So, it?s more about making games that are suitable, rather than selecting a particular app store. But basically for the Asia market, the game is more complex or a statistic-based game, and for western markets, the game should be more casual, such as Stack the Stuff.

Different platforms and OSes require different approaches to monetization, too. Mr. Mukti adds:

For the Android Market, it?s free, so we monetize using ads. For Apple?s App Store, we use lite and full versions; and for Nokia?s MeeGo, since it?s new, we just distribute it for free to test the market first.
