Anyone complaining that Hollywood movies are full of too many quick edits will definitely feel the pull of Alfonso Cuar?n's ("Children of Men") newest film, "Gravity." The movie, which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as stranded astronauts, will unspool at a relatively leisurely pace ? just 156 shots over two hours, according to Film Stage.
But that doesn't cut down on its thrill value, as evidenced in two new trailers: Clearly, this is a film that will leave audiences (and its characters) breathless.
In the first trailer, part of the film's 17-minute opening sequence, Bullock and Clooney are two astronauts working outside a space shuttle when debris and "meteorological conditions" destroy the spacecraft around them. Bullock is left spinning violently while still strapped to a detached arm of the space station while Clooney dashes around (at least, the kind of dashing one does in while in a space suit) trying to help. Bullock unhooks herself from the arm and goes hurtling into deep, empty, dark space. Focusing on her panicked breathing, that's where the second trailer picks up.
The movie promises to be both claustrophobic and expansive, as Cuar?n follows on Clooney's and Bullock's characters stranded in space with no link back to Earth, with a limited supply of oxygen. It also promises to be a roller-coaster ride of a new sort ? if one paced at a reasonable level.
"Gravity" opens in theaters on Oct. 4.

World oil prices drifted lower on Wednesday after weak manufacturing data in China, and before the latest update on energy reserves in the United States.
Brent North Sea crude for delivery in September fell 69 cents to stand at $107.73 a barrel approaching midday in London.
New York's main contract, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for delivery in September, slid 15 cents to $107.08 a barrel.
Global banking giant HSBC said its preliminary purchasing managers index (PMI) for China hit an 11-month low of 47.7 for July, down from 48.2 in June.
A reading above 50 indicates growth and anything below points to contraction. Its final reading will be released at the start of next month.
"The negative Chinese PMI data is having a dampening effect on oil prices," Jason Hughes, head of sales trading at CMC Markets in Singapore, told AFP.
"Traders will also be closely watching out for PMI data from Europe and elsewhere for clues about global demand," he said.
The result is the latest in a string of data suggesting previous double-digit growth rates in the world's top energy consumer are a thing of the past as Beijing looks to shift its income source from exports to domestic consumption.
Investors will now look to the release of the weekly US crude stockpiles by the Department of Energy later Wednesday.
A survey by the American Petroleum Institute showed supplies fell 1.44 million in the week to July 19, signalling robust demand as Americans take to the roads for their holidays.

Woodworking is a pleasant hobby, but it's important to remember that it can also be dangerous. Remember to use appropriate safety equipment at all times. You should have safety glasses, hearing protection and gloves to help prevent any accidents or injuries. Make certain you choose the right type of gloves for the job and that they fit properly for appropriate manual dexterity.
When using a table saw, use a block of wood clamped to the fence to set your length. Using the fence directly could result in a board being kicked back at you. To make measurements easy, use a block that is exactly 1 inch in length. Then all you have to do is set the fence length 1 inch greater than your desired length.

Since the middle of April, the price of?Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:MRO) has moved up significantly on the market, from around $29.80 per share to nearly $37.50 per share at the time of writing. The company also announced it was buying back its shares with the proceeds from the sale of Block 31 offshore of Angola. Is Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:MRO) a good buy for investors after the recent divestment? Let?s take a closer look and find out.
Asset sales and potential share buybacks
Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:MRO) is involved in the exploration and production of oil & gas, including oil sands mining and integrated gas, in many countries such as the U.S., Canada, Equatorial Guinea and Angola. Its total proved reserves have reached the highest level in 40 years, at more than 2 billion BOE, including 901 mmbbl liquid hydrocarbons, nearly 2.8 tcfe and 653 mmbbl of synthetic crude oil. The majority of its proved reserves, 1.3 billion BOE, was in North America, while the proved reserves in Africa were 609 million BOE. In the U.S., Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:MRO) had around 200,000 core net acres in Eagle Ford and around 390,000 net acres in the Bakken Shale area.
Recently, Marathon Oil announced that it has agreed to divest its 10% working interest in Block 31 offshore Angola to SSI Thirty-One Limited, with the total transaction value of around $1.5 billion. Angola Block 31 has five production and two injection wells online, with two active rigs building well inventory. Interestingly, Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:MRO) intended to use the proceeds from Block 31 in Angola to repurchase its shares and strengthen the company?s balance sheet. After this divestiture, Marathon Oil has reached $2.9 billion in asset sales, meeting the target of $1.5-$3 billion asset sales in the period of 2011-2013.
What I like about Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:MRO) is its consistent dividend payment in the past ten years. In 2012, its dividend was $0.68 per share, with a conservative payout ratio of only 25%. It is trading at $37.50 per share, with a total market cap of around $26.60 billion. The market values Marathon Oil at only 3.42 times its trailing EBITDA, and the dividend yield is only 1.8%. If we assumed that $1 billion was spent on share repurchase, investors could get an additional share buyback yield at 3.76% at the current trading price.
Lowest valuation among its peers
Compared to its peers Apache Corporation (NYSE:APA) and Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM), Marathon Oil is the cheapest valued among the three. Apache is trading at $85 per share, with a total market cap of around $33.30 billion. The market values Apache at 3.76 times its trailing EBITDA. Apache is more conservative than Marathon Oil in dividend policy, with a low dividend payout at only 15%. Investors could get the dividend with a yield at 1% at its current price.

The continual buzz over potential Apple products is once again kicking into high gear. And if latest rumors hold true, the tech giant is toying with larger screens for both its iPhones and iPads.
?
According to The Wall Street Journal, Apple?s Asian suppliers say the Cupertino company is testing tablet screens just shy of 13 inches diagonally and smartphone screens larger than four inches.
?
This gives some weight to previous reports that said Apple pushed back the 5S?s expected fall release date to give the company more time to tinker with its screen size.
?
Observers speculate the possible move away from one-size-fits-all strategy is aimed at... you guessed it, Samsung.
As a writer at CNET puts it: ?Apple has been looking to install a larger screen size on the iPhone to attract consumers smitten with Samsung's 5-inch Galaxy S4 and 5.5-inch Galaxy Note 2.?
?
As writer for Daily Tech explains, meeting the growing demand for bigger screens, quote: ?further shows how much has changed since former CEO Steve Jobs left the company.?
?
Jobs, who believed bigger wasn?t always better when it came to the iPhone, often said no one would buy phones with screens larger than 3.5 inches. (Via All Things D)
?
But as Gizmag points out, Apple?s been known to regularly toy with new designs, writing: ?The company likely builds hundreds, if not thousands, of devices for every one that makes it to market. So you'll want to ingest the appropriate grains of salt.?
?
It?s also rumored Apple may debut a cheaper phone next year that will cost about $99, as well as its long-awaited smartwatch.?

?Today?s decision truly is a reason to celebrate,? he said. ?By reaffirming their commitment to the veterans? population, the University of Michigan has sent a very clear message to returning service members: Welcome home and welcome to Michigan.?
Knezek, the first Iraq War veteran to serve in the Michigan Legislature, introduced two House Joint Resolutions in February that would require all of Michigan?s public universities and community colleges to offer in-state tuition rates to any active-duty, reserve or honorably discharged veterans, regardless of their state of residence.
?I was fortunate enough to sit down with some outstanding administrators from various universities after introducing this legislation,? he said. ?The University of Michigan in particular showed a tremendous amount of leadership on this issue. I can?t take credit for today?s actions ? that lies solely with the students, faculty and staff in Ann Arbor, Dearborn and Flint.?
After remarks from student veterans on campus, including the president of the University of Michigan Student Veterans Association, the Board of Regents voted 6-2 to approve the proposal, which would provide ?in-state tuition to active-duty military personnel, officers of the Public Health Service, and military veterans, without regard to the student?s legal residence. The in-state tuition also would be offered to spouses or dependent children of active duty military personnel stationed in Michigan.?
The changes will take effect in January 2014 and represent the first changes to in-state tuition guidelines since 2005.
?Veterans seeking to attend the university must meet or exceed the same standards for admission as any other student,? Knezek said. ?By maintaining their tradition of excellence while opening the doors to more veterans and their families, the University of Michigan is sending a powerful message across our state and our country.?

LANSING ? State Rep. David Knezek (D-Dearborn Heights) said a vote by the University of Michigan?s Board of Regents on Thursday to offer veterans in-state tuition rates helps to maintain the high standards of academics at the university while removing potential cost barriers to veterans from across the country.?Today?s decision truly is a reason to celebrate,? he said. ?By reaffirming their commitment to the veterans? population, the University of Michigan has sent a very clear message to returning service members: Welcome home and welcome to Michigan.?
