Comedian Wanda Sykes had 'em rolling in the aisles at the White House Correspondents Dinner in 2009, and she had Natalie Morales laughing up a storm on TODAY Thursday when?she dropped by to discuss her series of upcoming election specials, "NewNowNext Vote with Wanda Sykes."
For Sykes, the political is personal -- she's not just African-American, but gay and married to her partner. But as she explained, she thought she could understand why some people had negative perceptions of gay people. "Maybe they just hear the word 'sex' and they're like, 'Look at those same-sex people, all they're doing is just having sex all the time, that's all they're doing. I bet their lives are 90 percent sex and 10 percent parades.' That's it. Sex and floats."
Not true, she reassured Morales. "Maybe they think (same-sex marriage) ... is going to be mandatory. 'I don't want a same sex marriage.' Fine, you don't have to have one -- it's not going to be mandatory!"
"NewNowNext" will find Sykes helping viewers get educated on issues in the upcoming election, so Morales threw a few politicans' names out at her, and here are some of the results:
Bill Clinton: "A great American; one of the best speeches ever.... He could still be talking, and I'd listen."
Paul Ryan: "Eddie Haskell."
Michelle Obama: "A beautiful woman, a great First Lady. And nice biceps."
"NewNowNext Vote with Wanda Sykes" airs on the LOGO network on Sept. 10 and Nov. 5.
