Cloud Gaming Service Agawi Brings New Games to Microsoft's ...

With the launch of Windows 8 comes a new opportunity for developers to reach gamers on a whole new platform. ?Today, cloud gaming service Agawi has hit the play button on its GameZen app to bring more than a thousand games,?from casual to hardcore, to all Windows 8 devices.

Agawi, short for ?Any Game, Anywhere, Instantly,??allows developers to add games to a new platform quickly and without the need to convert any code. ??Those publishers had to do virtually nothing to get on that platform,??Agawi VP of business development?Jim Battaglia told SocialTimes.

Games currently represent nearly 20 percent of all apps in the Windows 8 app store. The new platform is part of Microsoft?s ?movement toward lighter, more portable, consumer-facing devices,? said Battaglia, which also means games that are more ?consumer-oriented, more fun, and more friendly.?

Agawi?s clients have produced a wide range of action, strategy, midcore, and hardcore games for both Web and PC. The company sees ?streaming as an effective solution? for tablets and connected TV devices as well, Battaglia said.

Formerly called iSwifter,?Agawi spun out of the YouWeb Incubator in 2010 and got its start as a cloud-based Flash game streaming service that made Facebook games for the iPad. The company launched version 2.0 of its platform in September and recruited game developers to the Windows 8 platform through its AGP Gold program. The Menlo Park, CA-based company hopes to stream hundreds of thousands of games to Windows 8 devices and, eventually, to bring these games outside the U.S.
